Refurbishment of the Evans ornamental lathe

Today I started the refurbishment of the Evans ornamental lathe. The first job was to take several photos of the cross slide prior to disassembly all from different angles and as the stripping down commenced. A lot of the steel parts were very rusty and too bad to just rely on 0000 steel wool and WD40 so I put them in a bath of Evaporust for 24 hours so tomorrow, hopefully, they will look a lot better.

The next job was to move onto the mahogany frame, this had never been treated to a coat of finish and so was quite badly stained in several areas. I gave it a light sand with 180 grit and it got some of the lighter stains out and even the dark stains look a lot better. I found that one of the stretchers and the back board had some damage that needed repairing and so they damaged areas were glued and clamped and tomorrow I will sand the repairs.
