Reassembly
Once the oil on the frame had dried I started reassembly. The frame was not original and was held together with M10 studding that had been cut to length with a hacksaw and the ends had started to rust. As a result I put the studs on my metal lathe and trued up the ends and chamfered them. I didn’t want to use the standard nuts as they didn’t look the part and so I bought stainless dome nuts. I reassembled the frame and a friend came to help me put the bed on the frame due to its weight. I polished the rust off the steel parts before reassembly.
To fit the Evans lathe in my workshop I had to move things around. Once the lathe was reassembled I realised that I could fit it and my Rose Engine alongside each other on the same wall rather than at 90 degrees to the wall as I had originally intended. I reduced the height of the back board by 10cm so that it didn’t block the sockets on the wall.
I reassembled the cross slide after polishing all the parts with a green webrax mop on my polishing motor and it now looks the part. I now need to make a mounting for it to fit it to the lathe bed. I will then look at making an over head drive to power the cutting frames.
